Vitamin Angel Donations Top 80 Million in 2005

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— Vitamin Angel Alliance announced it received a record level of contributions in 2005, allowing the group to deliver more than 80 million doses of nutritional supplements worldwide. The wholesale value of the vitamin donations was over $6.2 million, with donations reaching 40 countries. Among the group’s achievements were 18 million supplements delivered to families impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; 10 million supplements distributed for tsunami relief; 12 million supplements distributed to Tibetan children; and 30 million supplements distributed for the Pakistan earthquake relief effort.

“At a time when the world needed us to step forward with relief aid, our partners helped at a totally new level of giving,” said Howard Schiffer, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Vitamin Angels (www.vitaminangels.org). “There are now companies doing planned product runs every month to assure us of supplies for our international relief work.We are making a meaningful difference globally by addressing chronic malnutrition, preventing vitamin deficiency diseases and improving the quality of life.”
