Food Allergen Guidance Available

WASHINGTON— The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a revised guidance on food allergen labeling, including the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA). The document updates the October 2005 guidance and responds to numerous questions the agency has received on FALCPA and food allergens. Using a question-and-answer format, the guidance attempts to explain FDA’s current thinking on a number of issues related to food allergens and implementation of FALCPA. While FDA (www.fda.gov) welcomes ongoing public comments and expects ongoing questions about FALCPA, which pertains to products labeled on or after Jan. 1, 2006, the agency has already implemented the guidance.
