Humanetics, Unigen Present New Research at Weight-loss Conference
11/07/2005
Humanetics, Unigen Present New Research at Weight-loss Conference WASHINGTON—Humanetics Corp. and Unigen Pharmaceuticals presented new research on their branded weight-loss ingredients at the Second Annual World Obesity and Weight Loss Congress. John Zenk, M.D., chief medical officer of Humanetics, presented a case study on 3-acetyl-7-oxodehydroepiandrosterone (patented as 7-Keto®), a metabolite of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). According to the new research, titled “Naturally Enhanced Weight Loss Supported by Science,” 7-Keto produces three times greater weight loss than diet and exercise alone, and increases metabolism. “I think it is a testament to our track record of methodical and rigorous clinical investigation that 7-Keto was chosen as a case study,” said John Dykstra, chief operating officer (COO) of Humanetics. “We will present what we believe to be the most significant clinical substantiation of both safety and efficacy for any dietary ingredient in the weight loss market space.” Qi Jia, Ph.D., chief scientific officer of Unigen, presented results of new research surrounding the company’s ingredient UP120, a novel composition of free-B-ring flavonoids and flavans derived from Scutellaria and Acacia plants, designed to help people shed pounds and maintain a healthy weight by influencing fructose metabolism and cytokine production. Jia also discussed the company’s PhytoLogix® technology platform, which includes an ethno-medicinal plant library of more than 5,900 medicinal plants, 6,500 plant extracts and 120,000 fractions; and its role in the discovery and development of UP120. “This conference provided a perfect forum for Unigen to share research progress with peer scientists in the industry on the development of natural weight management ingredients resulting from Unigen’s novel and patentpending discovery and screening platform,” Jia said. “Obesity has skyrocketed these past few years, where it is estimated that approximately two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese, along with an alarming number of children and teens as well. This is of particular concern, since obesity leads to many other serious health conditions, such as Type II diabetes. Unigen joins the charge of many other leading research and development companies and finished goods manufacturers to create exciting new health products that address this important concern.” For more information on Humanetics, visit www.humaneticscorp.com or Booth #3054-3056 at SupplySide West; for additional information on Unigen, visit www.unigen.com or Booth #5001 at SupplySide West.
