DSM Presents Human Nutrition Award

DELFT, Netherlands—DSM Nutritional Products selected Rob Russell, Ph.D., as the winner of its DSM Human Nutrition Award for 2005. The 25,000 Euro award recognizes innovative research in the field of human nutrition, with an emphasis on naturally occurring dietary compounds that promote human health.

Russell is a professor at the Jean Mayer U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston. His research has focused on retinoid and carotenoid metabolism, including studies that laid the groundwork for investigating the role of carotenoids in carcinogenesis. Russell’s team has also examined human conversion of carotenoid precursors to vitamin A from dietary sources, as well as measuring true total antioxidant performance capacity of human plasma and tissue.
