Valensa Completes NDI Process for Zanthin®

EUSTIS, Fla.—Valensa International received notification from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that the agency approved the company’s New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) notification, allowing Valensa to offer its Zanthin® natural astaxanthin in the United States as a dietary supplement ingredient.Valensa also noted Zanthin was approved by the U.K. Food Standards Agency as a non-novel dietary supplement, allowing it to be marketed at a maximum dose of 4 mg/d in the European Union.

“Valensa, assisted by Dr. John Wilkinson of Herbal Sciences International, expended an immense effort to fully document the safety of Zanthin and provide the analytical data requisite to satisfying both regulatory agencies,” said Tony Evans, Ph.D., president of Valensa (www.valensa.com). “As far as we know, Zanthin is the only supercritical carbon dioxide extract of natural astaxanthin that can now be sold and used as a dietary supplement in both the United States and the European Union in compliance with statutory regulations.”
