EPAX Improves AD Symptoms

07/30/2007
STOCKHOLM, Sweden— Omega-3 fatty acids (as EPAX 1050 TG oil, from EPAX-AS) were shown in a recent study to help symptoms of depression coinciding with memory decline associated with Alzheimer’s disease (Int J Geriatr Psychiatr. 2007; ePub June 21, 2007; DOI: 10.1002/gps.1857). The randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, conducted by Yvonne Freund-Levi, M.D. at the Karolinska Institute, found carriers of a specific gene common to those with Alzheimer’s disease who received omega-3 supplements responded positively in regards to agitation symptoms. Those without the gene showed an improvement in symptoms of depression. “These findings are surely encouraging to the millions of people affected by Alzheimer’s disease,” said Bjorn Refsum, CEO of EPAX AS (www.EPAX.com). “This study helps demonstrate the many positive impacts of omega-3 fatty acids, whether one has specific health concerns or is simply looking to stay healthy.”
