Biothera Files Patent Suit, Wins IFT Innovation Award

EAGAN, Minn.—Biothera and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) filed a patent infringement lawsuit in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, against Biorgin, alleging the Brazilian company sold beta 1,3/1,6 gluco polysaccharide ingredients in the United States in violation of patents owned by MIT and licensed to Biothera. The plaintiffs are seeking a permanent injunction and unspecified damages.
In additional news, Biothera’s Wellmune WGP, an immune-enhancing functional food and beverage ingredient, received a 2007 Innovation Award from the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT).
