Phytotech Extracts Pvt. Ltd.

10/16/2006
BANGALORE, India— Phytotech Extracts is now supplying Kathachin™, up to 90 percent catechins from Acacia catechu, a tree native to eastern India. According to the company, studies on Kathachin show its flavonoids may inhibit both cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and 5-lipoxygenase, which produce prostaglandins and leukotrienes linked to inflammation and pain. In addition, Kathachin may have antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties.

Phytotech also announced it developed a 100-percent watersoluble whole leaf extract of Psidium guajava (guava), which has hepatoprotective activity. The isolated guava leaf extract is standardized for flavonoids, polyphenols, catechins and guiajaverin. Animal trials conducted at Krupanidhi College of Pharmacy in Bangalore suggest the extract works through antioxidant activity.
